The Time Period

It's been pretty hard to find local stories that may be linked to the controversy, but I have found some interesting news, nonetheless.

Local:

1.Catholic Opposition Stalls California Right-To-Die
2.

National:

1. House GOP Pulls Breast Cancer Bill Over Unfounded Abortion Concerns

2. Lawmakers Knew About Planned Parenthood Video Weeks Ago

Global:

1. Abortion pills throughout Europe
2. Enviros That Supported The Pope's Encyclical Tout Abortion To Solve Global Warming

What was going on in the world?

There was a lot stirring up nationally concerning planned parenthood and the political debate on abortion, around the same time as David Daleiden released his first video and I think that is for a good reason. I have no doubts that David Daleiden strategically released that video on July 14th, 2015, which was actually footage filmed a year before, on July 25, 2015. His Human Capital Project, an over three year long investigation on Planned Parenthood, allowed him to have an upper-hand when it came to the timing of releasing evidence. The first footage and blog post were posted on July 14th, and it is no coincidence that he responded and even gave interviews to biased, pro-life, conservative reporters immediately after.

I am not sure if any local events had any impact on Daleiden and when he released the controversial video, but I am certain his goal in mind was to trigger national reactions.

The story, "House GOP Pulls Breast Cancer Bill Over Unfounded Abortion Concerns" was published on July 15th, 2015, a day after the edited Planned Parenthood video was released on the Center for Medical Progress website. The article gives insight on how House Republicans did not pass a bill concerning breast cancer research for the Susan G. Komen Foundation; they ended up removing the Foundation from the bill and giving all funds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, instead. It is interesting because the Susan G. Komen Foundation is known for its close ties with Planned Parenthood. On July 14th, 2015, the bill was being voted on, and 142 Republicans' votes were apart of the 307 total. However, 21 Republicans backed out later that day, which made the passing of the bill impossible because it needed two-thirds majority. A House GOP leadership aide reasoned, "We are working  to ensure that charitable organizations which receive funding from this legislation are 100 percent focused on diagnosing, treating, and curing breast cancer."

Could they have changed their minds on co-sponsoring the bill due to the release of Daleiden's incriminating Planned Parenthood footage on that same July 14th, 2015, Tuesday morning?

However, some Republicans actually knew about the video even before the bill, which still raises some other suspicions. Republicans, such as Rep. Tim Murphy, could not give a clear answer as to why they decided to open an investigation into Planned Parenthood on July 15th, a day after the video was released to the public, if him and other leaders had seen the video prior.

As for what was happening globally in relation to my controversy, an "abortion drone," the world's first, was created to distribute abortion pills throughout Poland and Germany. It is a step in the fight to make abortion legal in countries where women cannot have them. The non-profit group responsible is Women on Waves. World Health Approved abortion pills were already being mailed and delivered in June, but the drone makes a bigger statement. Its flight was set for June 27th, 2015.

In the second global news article, Pope Francis, abortion, and global warming are introduced. The Sierra Club supposedly was in extreme support of the Pope's "call for global governance over the climate and oceans," however, they ironically are partners with The Universal Access Project, and so is Planned Parenthood. They share the common goal of pushing for the global-spread of contraceptives and abortions for women, which the Pope is definitely not apart of. A tweet from Sierra Club about "The Universal Access Project" was posted on July 1st, 2015, stating, "Population and a sustainable environment go hand in hand. Tell us why you support family planning!"

That article does not directly pertain to my story, however, it has the element of abortion.
